Information for au pairs

What you should know when coming to Germany as an au pair.

Insurance obligation

In Germany, the host family is obliged to take out au pair insurance for you. You do not need to worry about insurance. Ask your host family for a copy of the insurance confirmation so that you know where you are insured and what is covered. Au pair insurance usually consists of health, accident, liability, and deportation cost insurance.

Your journey as an au pair

Before your au pair stay

Many embassies require proof of insurance for a visa. If you are applying for your visa yourself, ask your host family for a copy of the insurance confirmation. Our insurance is recognized by embassies and consulates. Make sure that the insurance starts on the day of departure, so that you are insured with AU-PAIR24 as soon as you leave your home country.

During your au pair stay

If you need to see a doctor during your stay, we will be happy to assist you. You can call us and we will explain what you need to keep in mind when visiting the doctor. Of course, you can also read all about this under “Claims” or refer to the overview of the procedure in the event of illness. AU-PAIR24 also applies to vacations of up to 6 weeks, worldwide and also in your home country.

After your au pair stay

You should keep your insurance confirmation, as authorities in Germany and some home countries require proof of insurance for the period spent abroad. If you are taking preparatory language courses in Germany after your au pair stay, we recommend EDUCARE24 as follow-up insurance.
